Leon J. Schearer entered the real estate business in March 1971 and became a certified appraiser in 1975. In 1980, Leon bought the Warren County Real Estate Agency, Warren, PA. With the help of his wife and co-owner, Monique, the sales volume increased over five-fold. In June 1987, they sold the company to a local realtor, relocated to North Carolina, and opened American Real Estate and Appraisal Company.
